![]() New Name In order to clarify our identity, the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Foundation has recently changed its informal operating name. Formerly known as the "Sequoia Fund," we are now the "Sequoia Parks Foundation". We’ve made no change in our mission, however! Newest Awards The Foundation received a $30,000 award from the James Irvine Foundation in support of Artists in the Back Country, a summer residency program aimed at exposing artists to remote areas of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in an effort to highlight and share this priceless wilderness with a broader audience. Latest Press April 2007, Sequoia National Park - The Sequoia Parks Foundation (SPF) recently held its Spring Feast & Fine Art of the Sierra benefit event—one of the most prestigious annual art events in Central California. This year’s event, held April 27-29 at Sequoia National Park’s Wuksachi Lodge, showcased over a dozen extraordinary artists. Spring Feast & Fine Art of the Sierra By all accounts, the 2007 Spring Feast and Fine Arts sale was a stunning success. This annual event, which occurred this year on April 27th and 28th, drew rave reviews from many participants. Our annual art sale reached a new level, with fully 50% of the art displayed sold by the end of the event. More than a dozen well-known California artists participated in the show, and Stephen Ball, Michael Enriquez, Tom Killion, Martin Weekly, Zee Zee Mott, and Alan Sonneman all were present. A wonderful dinner and silent auction helped raise nearly $40,000 for the Foundation. Thank you to all who participated and supported this fund raising event. And a very special thanks to your major event sponsors, Bank of the Sierra, Roberts Engineering, Visalia Community Bank and Century 21-Three Rivers. High Sierra Volunteer Trail Crew Recently 26 volunteers from the High Sierra Volunteer Trail Crew spent a weekend in Sequoia National Park performing spring cleanup on Giant Forest trails preparing sites for the summer season and launch of the new in-park shuttle system. Eight participants were Fresno State University freshmen who were members of an Interact Club at Sunnyside High School last year. The crew did an excellent job of clearing trails, trailheads, shuttle stops and picnic areas. For more information on the group, please visit www.trailcrew.org Park Passes The annual and daily park passes purchased at the entrance stations and outlets in gateway communities are featuring photographs from the Roberts Photo collection donated to the park by the Sequoia Parks Foundation. During a Naturalization Ceremony to take place in Grant Grove, Kings Canyon National Park, in September 2007 each new citizen will receive an annual pass to the parks from the Foundation. |
