Making the parks more accessible is one of the goals of this grant, which will allow the parks to complete a universal access nature trail on the Kings Canyon valley floor, as well as plan for more universal trails in Grants Grove.
The Jeangerard Family Foundation has provided a majority of the funding for the 2-mile universal access nature trail, which begins at the Zumwalt Meadow parking lot. Suitable for all ages and abilities, the trail’s boardwalk affords spectacular views of Zumwalt Meadow and the steep canyon, and provides access and the freedom to explore and experience natures’ beauty and grandeur, hearing the soothing sounds of the river, watching wildlife, and taking in the spectacular views of backcountry wilderness.
“I can’t invite you to hike through the mountains, but I can invite you to come on this universal access trail that I can go on.” Wheelchair user, and universal access supporter, Gale Williams
The Jeangerard Foundation, established in 1992, is a Madera, Calif.-based organization specializing in conservation and the preservation of natural resources.
